Interview Guide

Be properly prepared before you meet the employer for an interview

  1. Be prepared to answer the following questions
  2. Find out all you can about the job
  3. Learn as much as you can about the company
  4. Your personal presentation
  5. Plan your journey

1. Be prepared to answer the following questions:

What questions should I expect?

  • Tell us about yourself.
  • What are your strengths? (Give examples)
  • What are your weaknesses? (Give examples)
  • What responsibilities did you have before? (Please explain more)
  • Why did you leave your previous job?
  • What is most important to you when you work?
  • What can you contribute to our company?
  • Where do you see yourself in five years time?

How do I prepare for this?

Write down as many interview questions you can and practice how to respond in front of the mirror or take the help of a friend who takes the role of interviewer.

The employer liked your formal application and now wants to see you as a person.

Try to relax a bit and take the interview as if you are meeting new people who may also be your colleagues in the near future.

It's ok to not be able to answer all the questions and it's ok to smile and laugh as long as you keep thinking that this is an important chance for you to get a good job.

2. Find out all you can about the job:

What do I need to know?

  • What responsibilities are involved in this job.
  • Who is the boss.
  • Your opportunities for further development and Education.
  • Where and how often you are expected to work.
  • What salary levels and employment regulations apply.

How do I prepare for this?

You can find this information in the job advertisement, company website and through their contact & support section.

Information about salary levels and employment regulations can be found on union sites and the internet.

3. Learn as much as you can about the company:

What do I need to research?

  • Organization and size.
  • Who owns the company.
  • The company's areas of work
  • Who are their competitors.
  • Is the company doing well.

How do I prepare for this?

Read the company's website, annual reports and articles on the Internet about the company. Find out about their partners and subsidiaries.

4. Your personal presentation: (Give a good first impression)

What should I do to make a good impression?

  • Have clean nails, polished shoes and crease free clothes.
  • Wear clothing that fits the company's profile.
  • Do not use too much perfume or jewelry.
  • Do not eat spicy food or garlic the night before.
  • Wear comfortable clothes and shoes.

How do I prepare for this?

Prepare your clothes the night before and check in the mirror. If you are uncertain about which dress style that suits then it is best to dress formally. Ask a friend for their opinion about your presentation choices.

5. Plan your journey: (Do not be late)

What do I have to think about?

  • Confirm that you have the right address.
  • Print maps and timetables from the internet.
  • Write down the telephone number (in case of a delay).
  • Charge your mobile phone the night before.
  • Be prepared to have to take a taxi the last bit of the way.

If you're going to drive by car:

  • Find out about available parking in the area.
  • Have coins or a card for the parking meter.
  • Refuel your vehicle the day before.
  • Update your GPS software. Pre-program the journey.

How do I prepare for this?

Give yourself time in case there are unexpected obstacles along the way. Be there 15 mins before the interview begins. Usually you have to check in at the front desk and get a visitor's pass.

Go to the address the day before if possible.

Use timetables and trip planners on the internet to get an idea of the journey times and distances involved.
